Kindergarten Opta

Apropos of nothing, I have done this:

Then and now: the Premier League points differentials from this time last year

Then and now: the Premier League points differentials from this time last year

All of which tells us what we already know:

  • United have got better (more efficient)
  • City have got worse
  • Chelsea are patently not the best team in Europe
  • Spurs haven’t yet reached the ‘choke mark’ of 50 points
  • Arsenal have continued their ever-so-slight, year-on-year regression since 2005
  • Everton blow hot and cold from one season to the next
  • Michu is rather good
  • West Brom fans should quit complaining
  • Brendan Rodgers needs time (perhaps an infinite amount)
  • Stoke are boring in every possible way
  • Fulham miss Dembele and ‘Deuce’
  • Sunderland play an archaic and endangered style of football
  • Norwich are suffering from a mild form of ‘second season syndrome’
  • Newcastle overachieved massively last year (and are underachieving this time)
  • Villa are rotten
  • Wigan are in prime position to launch another final furlong charge
  • QPR won’t escape this time

  1. Only two teams go down on this table. This may be a recipe for Villa survival.

The squad depth and experience usually comes to the fore at this time of the year. Expect this to hurt Villa
